Follow the cleaning instructions in the manual. I just ran the the cleaning function today. You need to run the cleaning function more than once. I believe the manual says to run it several times until the add water blue light on the single serve side lights up. The tank will be close to empty by then. If there is any vinegar and water mixture left the manual says discard whatever is left. When I ran as instructed the red light goes out.
