Yes, you should be able to plug a sofa into it and the only way you can "drain" a battery in a UPS is to use the device attached for the entire length of "battery run" time . . . like a laptop which would have an hour or so of "run time". A reclining sofa wouldn't drain the battery in a black out unless you were constantly reclining it back and forth for a long time ( an hour or more?) like an amusement park ride. But.... generally you get at least the warranty length of time on the batteries which is usually 3 yrs although a sofa wouldn't be anything on the batteries since once the power goes out you would just straighten out the chair and be done with it.

The battery cycles are dependent on many variables but a general use of a UPS is meant to be stay plugged in and powered on at all times.
