You can plug the Ethernet cable directly in. Or if you are running it with WiFi. In the bottom right corner of the desktop you should see an internet bar icon click it and choose your WiFi and connect

As far as Mircosoft Word, there maybe a trail version, however, once the trail is done, you will need to purchase Microsoft Word or find an alternative, such as Google Docs.
