You could control the drive's action through media player applications installed on your laptop. The sound output is through laptop speakers or earbuds whichever is connected.

This is a USB drive, so you use software on your computer such as Windows Media Player, Groove Music, iTunes, etc. to listen to CD's. It comes with software to watch DVD's if you want to use it. The sound does come out of your laptop or headphones plugged into the laptop.
