• Yes, hdmi is the best connection in the monitor. This monitor is not DVI compatible. Dvi and HDMI are actually the same technology level HDmI carries audio and DVI does not.

• The HDMI and VGA cables have minimal difference in picture clarity. You should be good to go regardless of how you connect. I have three of them hooked together playing off my MacBook Pro.
