“Why would Best Buy list this as 140watts RMS per channel 700watt receiver when Denon themselves list this actually as 70watts per channel receiver. I could see that if you were using 4 ohm speakers but I thought it was only rated down to 6 ohms”

It is capable to drive 140W (6 ohm) using 1 channel- basic stereo with 2 speakers. Most people will use 2 channel at 70W per channel at 8 ohms for surround sound using 5 speakers and a subwoofer.
