how do i erase a cd so i can burn on it null

You need cd-rw media to erase and use again. You can add or just burn over old info. Good software like NERO will walk you through all the steps.

The discs would have to be CD-RW and when they originally were burned, the option to rewrite would have had to be checked.

Only works with RW discs. 1. Insert disc in computer's CD/DVD/Blue-ray burner. 2. Click START then COMPUTER. 3. Double click the CD/DVD/Blue-ray icon in Windows Explorer. 4. Highlight files/folders to be deleted and press the Delete key or select ERASE THIS DISC from the toolbar and follow steps in the wizard if you want to erase all files.

They are not rewritable you have to look for ones that are RW

you need to purchase re-writable DVD's they are sold seperate and are as expensive up to 5$ per one

If you bought a DVD+R disc, then you are unable to erase those. If it says "R" at the end, that means Recordable. It can only be written to once. If you were to purchase one that ended in "RW" means Rewritable. These you can erase and start over.

That can only he done with a dvd rw disk

After you record your program and after you finalize the recording, sorry you can't erase the disc...
