“I understand that this is designed for 16" stud spacing. However, if where I want the center of the TV is not directly between two studs is there any way to adjust this mount or the positioning of the TV on it to make it centered?”

You can use !/4 X 4 in Toggle Bolts and it works get fine !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
