“Can I use this to hook my laptop to my standard television monitor”

• If your laptop has a DisplayPort output and your TV has a HDMI input it will work. If the computer has a HDMI output and the monitor has a DisplayPort input it WILL NOT work. I bought mine for this situation and now have to return it.

• As long as your TV or monitor has an HDMI port, yes. I use this to connect my laptop to my 32" TV.
