You would have to fold your 8 1/2 paper in half. Would say 4in. Yes it shreds credit cards but it seems the credit card will mess it up faster. It gets stuck

I haven't tried shredding a credit card yet. You can feed 3 sheets folded lengthwise with no problems. Shredded paper size is tiny.

Shreds anything 4 inches wide, so you have to fold the 8.5X11 in half (horizontally)
