• Usually a mac laptop has a mini display port not a full size If your mac has a full size display port and your projector has hdmi in then it should work but check the connector size

• I don't think macs have a display port but rather an hdmi port. As such, you want a regular hdmi cable rather than this. This connector is just to transition from display port to hdmi, and then you use a regular hdmi cable to connect to the projector or tv or whatever from this connector.
