Hello Chris, this is Kelly with Dyson. With regard to filter life, your machine will show the letter "F" on the display, when it's time to change the filter. The filter should last roughly 4382 hours; if used 12 hours every single day it should give you about a year of performance. The Dyson Pure Hot+Cool™ purifier fan removes a range of contaminants from the air. It purifies to remove 99.97% of allergens and pollutants as small as 0.3 microns from the home. It also removes pollen, pet dander and odors such as cigarette smoke and cooking smells.
