The tower purifier has a setting to blow the air up and to the side instead of through the center. I haven’t used it in the summer months, but I assume this is for situations where a fan wouldn’t be necessary. You can also use a very low fan speed setting, which at least for the tower model seems to basically reduce the wind to nothing while still purifying the air (even if this does cause the purification to be less effective/take longer).
