The filter is washable and easy to take off and clean. There is a message that will tells when it needs cleaning. It takes at least a day to dry but a day without vacuuming is always a good day. I know you can buy a replacement battery. But, I think you may be wondering if you can extend your vacuuming time by using a second battery and I don't know the answer to that
