• Hi Chuck, this is Kelly with Dyson. The dock itself does not have anything that would allow the unit to charge; you would thread your charging cable behind the dock and the pin on the charger clicks in to position within the dock, so when you place the unit on the dock, it's making contact with the pin to charge. You do not have to use the dock to store and/or charge your machine. The charger itself can be plugged directly in to the unit to charge it. Best wishes, Kelly Dyson Customer Support
