Hello there, this is Kelly with Dyson. The use of the dock that comes with the Dyson V7™ is optional to use. The dock itself doesn't supply power to the machine. Rather, the charger cord threads behind the dock, before it's wall mounted. The charger pin end will snap in to place within the dock, so when the machine makes contact, it's receiving a charge. The other end plugs in to your electrical outlet. There's nothing you'd need to re-wire in your home. Best wishes, Kelly Dyson Customer Support
