As far as I know, you have to keep your finger pressed down to operate.
Sorry, there was a problem. Please try again later.Yes you do have to keep your finger on the button, but I’ve found it saves on your battery. This is because when you have to move furniture or adjust something and your take your finger off the button you aren’t wasting battery time.

Battery power is only on when the trigger is pushed – this means that the battery is only used for cleaning, and is not wasted when moving from room to room, or moving around obstacles.
