No it adjusts. There is a slide in front you can adjust for height of floor carpeting

Hello Mare, this is Kelly with Dyson. You do not need to change to a different floor tool, to transition from carpeting to hardwood, with the V8 Animal. That being said, if you do have delicate flooring, you may wish to upgrade to the Absolute model, which comes with the soft roller head, or you can also purchase that floor tool separately.
