“Does the monitor display anything when not in reverse? In other words, when driving is the monitor screen blank or off or does it display anything.”

• Mine goes off and on. I don't know if this is by design or a bug. It shows the time, then the backup line screen and then a blank avi screen. I usually just leave it unplugged until I need it for backup.

• Mine displays the time and date, then randomly goes blank. I wish it had more functionality to be honest.

• No , it gets its power from the reverse lite positive power wire..
