Yes, the eero is intended to replace your existing router. One eero will be connected to your modem/internet connection. This will be the gateway eero and will create an eero wifi network. The other eero will connect to the gateway eero (either wired or wirelessly) and will broadcast the same wifi network. If you want to keep your existing router you can, just plug the eero into that router. In general it is advisable to put the eero to bridge mode in those cases.
