The eero is the wireless device as opposed to your internet router from your ISP. The eero will be the device providing the signal, wireless name, etc. It's super simple to set up and they even walk you through it on the app (app available for both iPhone and Android).

Not sure about geeksquat but eero can be use as stand alone with full router functionality or as a repeater for another router in bridge mode.

No, you need a eero base unit and the beacon. Very simple set up and you would be able to do it yourself.

No, the beacon is more or less a WiFi extender. I would suggest you get the eero base station with the beacon. The beacon does not have a spot for the Ethernet cable. Also, the beacon you just plug into a wall socket.
