I assume they all communicate in some fashion via WiFi. I have a two story home, the main unit is upstairs with the router/modem, and the other two are down stairs in different rooms. All I know is I have no buffering when streaming, or video conferencing and there are several of us in the house either using smart phones. smart tv's or on laptops all at the same time without any issues now.. Great product and customer service is the best I've ever come across.
