No, it is not. It needs to be plugged in to a wall charger.

This means to charge your mug between uses or to reheat / maintain your beverage to the desired temp the charger has to be connected to an outlet. Once the mug begins to stop maintaining the set temperature you like, it needs to go back on the charger - but this takes about 80-90 mins off charger before this begins to happen in a noticeable way. Keep in mind, every coffee you’ve ever enjoyed before cools slightly after a short time so this mug is dramatically different and much better than microwaving your coffee to reheat within 30mins. You could use the coaster unplugged from the charging wire as an actual coaster for aesthetics - but, it’s just a base to put your coffee on and it would not be doing anything to warm or maintain your drink temperature if not plugged in. In my opinion this is not clearly explained in the instructions and it is probably the number one feature (mobility of the charger) that people want. I’m quite sure the company is aware of this. If you tend to sit with your coffee in the living room on the coffee table, it’s likely less convenient to have the coaster plugged in because without an extension cord you wont have an outlet there. If you are at a desk or at your kitchen counter with your coffee, there’s likely a convenient, barely noticeable option to keep your coaster plugged in and your coffee sitting on it between sips for the ultimate “keep warm” at all times / all day experience. I highly recommend using the app and having the mug connected to bluetooth because you can set it by turning up the temperature of your mug all the way from the factory default to the hottest setting which is freshly brewed (a difference of about 10 degrees) - you will enjoy it more.
