“How many batteries? The picture shows 8 AA or AAA. However, item description say 4 AA or AAA at a time can be charged. Does it charge 4 or 8 at a time??”

This charger is capable of charging 1-8 AA or AAA batteries at a time. Can also charge 1-4 D or C cell's at a time or 1 nine-volt battery also. The user manual can be viewed at: http://data.energizer.com/PDFs/chfc2-instructions.pdf I own several of these & use them extensively. Hope this helps!

Sorry, there was a problem. Please try again later.version shown is old model and charged 8 AA’s or 12 AAA’s at a time, and fast (1-2 hrs). New version replacing this has no lid, so you can tell new cheap quality one from old one with lid that worked great! Cheap quality new one without flip lid only does 4 of any of me mentioned size batteries (both only charged single 9volt at a time) and it takes 3-4 hrs. Don’t buy if new lidless model!

Sorry, there was a problem. Please try again later.Yes u can charge 4 at a time. Only hiccup I found is in order to keep the batteries charging you have to leave the charging station lid up/open otherwise it seems to do a auto power down after about an hour or 2.

Sorry, there was a problem. Please try again later.The unit is divided into 5 charge areas. One is for 9 Volt. The other 4 areas are universal 1D or 1C or 2AA or 2AAA. That gives you max of 4, 4, 8, 8 respectively or any variation of that. The packing has general information only. It gets confusing because since it is talking about charge time which varies based on the quantity, size and capacity of the batteries being charged.
