Yes. There is a lot of heat generated by the LEDs and the heavy metal case radiates this heat away from them to keep them healthy. Unless you need the full output I suggest holding the on switch down to toggle through the dimming and focus ranges - this keeps heat down and also extends battery life dramatically.
