THERE ARE 2 BLACK INK CARTRIDGES . MAKE SURE YOU ARE REPLACING BOTH CARTRIDGES.. THE PHOTO BLACK AND THE REGULAR BLACK WHICH IS A BIGGER CARTRIDGE..

If so, the machine was designed to use 302 and 302XL genuine Epson Ink Cartridges. You can try removing the ink cartridge and making sure there is nothing on the ink chip causing an issue with contact.
