Hi E, Yes you can. We recommend refilling any expended colors as soon as possible to avoid possible issues with the print head. Regards, Mark - The Epson Team.

All evidence points to needing working cartridges in all slots to print in black & white since it uses a mixture of the colors to print grayscale.
