Hello dan. Yes, when you scan a thick original, you can pull the scanner cover straight up to accommodate a 1/2-inch thick sports card. Please remember to close the document cover and hold it down firmly as you scan. Regards, Kevin - The Epson Team.

The instructions say that when scanning thick objects, such as pages from a book, you may have to hold the cover down, so that it remains level.
