“Plan to scan and photoshop by first saving it on passport 2tb hard drive, then will open it up on a iPad, Mac laptop, or pc. Concerned my models are two old and the os are not compatible. Please advise on how to check compatibility.”

I doubt that you can scan directly to a hard drive however you may be able to as there are controls on the scanner itself. However, to get any control you would need to connect to a computer and install the software.
