it's adjustable in the app. if you want optimum battery life, it records 20 secs clips. if you want optimum surveillance, it records up to 1 min per clip. it'll reactivate and start a new clip and continue recording if motion is still being detected. there's also an option to manually set how long you want it to record per event, but longer recordings will affect the battery life, or couse.

Keep in mind that battery use will increase when outside the factory settings. I'm not sure how fast it resets and starts recording again, but its pretty quick. You will not need to stay connected to ethernet after set up, but may not be as reliable if the signal is week.
