WiFi is needed to sync information from scale to phone

It only communicates via wifi.

When the scale asks you to step off, then step back on it is calibrating to ensure accuracy.

Yes to both questions. It does have WIFI. and it does communicate with the Fitbit watch via bluetooth.

Needs the wifi I believe to set up the app. After that I don't think you need the wifi connected

It communicates with the phone. Without wifi phone will use data.
