I've never counted the characters but it looks like 7. It display's Telephone #/Name of person texting above and message below. It does scroll giving you a quick glance of the message.

Sorry, there was a problem. Please try again later.You can set it to where it will just show the senders name. it is one line and it moves to the left to be able to read the whole name. There is also an option where it can show what the message says as well.
Sorry, there was a problem. Please try again later.From what I've been able to tell with mine I see who the text is from on the top line and below that one scrolling line of the actual message. I've had a few long text messages come in and when I get a long one I have to look and read as it scrolls becasue then it's gone.
