There is nothing special we had to do other than follow the directions for wearing it: a little loose, and 1-2 fingers width above the wrist. If yours isn't working, and you are wearing it per their directions, then it must be defective. I'd return it. The only caveat is making sure you have the CHARGE HR, and not just the normal CHARGE (Charge HR has heart rate tracking, the normal charge does not),
