no you do not need to drain this in AC mode. i had the same concern when i bought it. there are two drains, but its not necessary to use them in AC mode.

Please try again later.yes, I just bought a house like the ones you see in the fish tanks but a little fatter and attach it to the second drain port near the top and either hang it out the window or put the house into a big pot so the water just drains out while the ac is runnung.

It does include a plastic drain tube but no instruction of where to attached. I believe there is a drain at the bottom (top drain is for dehumidifying, dry mode, and has a garden hose fitting.
