Great question, Gina! The water typically evaporates. However, if for any reason the bottom tray gets full, you will possibly receive a “P1” message on your display that alerts you to drain the tray. Please try again later.I have NEVER had any indicator alert that shows drainage is necessary, it just leaks all over the place, even from places where it is not supposed to have drainage. I have the included drainage hose properly installed which drains into a large heavy-duty bucket that is emptied daily. Yet it still reeks of mildew
