The Forerunner 35 does have the ability to pair with an external Heart Rate Monitor.

Yes, there is an option to get a HR strap. HR is pretty good through the wrist, but a strap does make it more accurate.

I think so. Check it out on the Garmin WebSite. Mine works well without the strap
