You do need to have your phone with you to get notifications on the watch while running.

Yes, you have to wear the watch and it's pretty cool b/c you can accept the notifications/calls or reject them from your watch :)

If you want to receive e-mails and text msg you have to have phone with you.

Yes, your phone and the watch need to be within about 30 meters of each other to receive notifications on the watch.

It's Bluetooth, so yes. Limited range is a Bluetooth thing.

No. I was told by Best Buy that the only time you need the phone is if you want to download and view the results from the watch. I have not synchronized mine to a phone or I-pad yet as I have had trouble doing so and lack time to fool with it. But I use it often no matter where I am and it is helpful. Works great.
