The adult would need to be able to put the device in an activity profile that uses GPS and would need the watch paired with a compatible phone and be able to use the LiveTrack feature. This may not be the type of device you're looking for but you may want to go to support.garmin.com where you'll find many helpful FAQ's and video's on the functions of the device.
