Yes, this watch uses Bluetooth—that's the way it connects to your phone. In my experience it has a pretty good range and a fast connection. My Garmin Connect app is usually updated even before I open it after a run. With my previous watch (Forerunner 35) I always had to force a sync and wait for the results.
