Yes, the GTM 60™ HD Digital Traffic Receiver is compatible with the Garmin DriveSmart™ 65 & Traffic. The HD traffic receiver provides a faster refresh rate, coverage on major city streets and basic weather.

I can't speak for the 65, but the cable that came with my 61 didn't have the Traffic Information capability. If I wanted traffic information I had to somehow connect my Garmin to an app in my mobile phone. The cable adds the Traffic information in areas where it is broadcast over the airwaves (urban areas only - no such luck in rural areas.)

I do not think this cable provides anything more than the cable that is included. The reason I got the cable is because last year's Garmin DriveSmart did not have the cable included and instead utilized an app for a smartphone to receive traffic information.
