There is no built-in heart rate monitoring, but if you buy an ANT-enabled heart rate strap, it can record your beats in real time, and in most instances, much better than other monitors. This information can be fed back to you in real time as you workout so that you know what zone you're in and if you're achieving the optimal pace. Quite a nice feature.
