“Microwave gets quite hot to the touch when in use - Also cord touches the micro in the back. It seems to have all the space it needs for ventilation - might that be why it is getting hot though? Also should I tape cord up so it will be raised and not touch the microwave?”

Hello LDSINKG - this is Nancy at GE Appliances and I am happy to help you. It is normal to feel a warm outer case on the control panel side. The heat is normal and comes from the power transformer. Further, cooking foods in a microwave oven for an extended period of time can cause a heat transfer not only to the internal oven walls and floor, but to the external cabinet as well.
