I also had an older GE microwave that was 1100 Watts and I had to replace. Yes it has a lower watt rating but seems to cook just as quick or quicker than the older one. I guess this newer one is more efficient. It is also is only slightly smaller.

Product technology, design and features can certainly change with new introductions. You should not notice a significant difference with this 950 watt microwave. Recipes usually list the suggested cooking times as a span of time (example 6-8 minutes). Always start out using the lowest time shown and check food for doneness, then add time in small increments if needed. Most recipes developed for use in one wattage microwave can successfully be adapted for a different wattage microwave by increasing or decreasing the time. Also, check out GE® 1.6 Cu. Ft.
