It stays. Even though it looks like cardboard, it's a thin metal plate.
Sorry, there was a problem. Please try again later.Hi Toni - Thanks for choosing GE Model # JVM3160! The cardboard cover on the right top or side wall of the microwave interior is there by design. The cardboard (mica) covers the waveguide system that feeds microwave energy into the cavity and should not be removed. Follow the instructions in the owner's manual for cleaning the interior of the oven. The same instructions apply to the cardboard cover: https://products.geappliances.com/MarketingObjectRetrieval/Dispatcher?RequestType=PDF&Name=49-40669-6.PDF - Also view MICROWAVE CLEANING RECOMMENDATIONS: https://products.geappliances.com/appliance/gea-support-search-content?contentId=17377 - If you have any additional questions, do not hesitate to ask, we are also happy to help at GEAppliances.com! Sue
