Sorry, there was a problem. Please try again later.Hi - Thank you for reaching out to us and for having purchased a new GEA microwave. Yes, it is normal for the top vents to be open. The internal components of the microwave generate heat and that excess heat will be exhausted from the vent openings on the top. If you have your microwave installed to vent internally or recirculating, the air will be exhausted from the vents on top as well. There is no cause for concern with this design.
