A:AnswerHey there, and thanks for contacting us. We hate to hear your microwave is no longer working, but we do appreciate you choosing GE Appliances for your next model! Unfortunately, you would not be able to reuse your existing bracket – we regret any inconvenience this may cause, but the mounting bracket included with the new microwave should be used, as the bracket is specific to each model. (The new screws, bolts and exhaust adapter should also be used.) That said, all 30” over-the-range microwaves are approximately the same width and designed to fit into a 30” wide cabinet opening, so any of our over-the-range models of that width will work as a replacement for your existing model. Several of our models may work for you - PVM9179DRWW, for example, also has a white finish and has similar capacity and dimensions as your last model. If you’d like to view other options, you can do so on our GE Appliances website by viewing the ‘Kitchen’ tab, selecting ‘All Microwaves’ and using the filtering options on the side to choose ‘Over-the-Range’ as your type of microwave. We hope this is helpful, and are glad to assist with any other questions or concerns you may have. Thanks for being part of our GE Appliances family! -Sarah@GEA
A:AnswerHi - We certainly appreciate your loyalty! All GE 30" over-the-range microwaves are approximately the same width, and are designed to fit into a 30" wide cabinet opening. Therefore, any of our 30" over-the-range models will work as a replacement for your existing 30" over-the-range model JVM1540DP1WW. Also, the over-the-range models are all designed for adaptation for the following three types of ventilation: 1. Outside Exhaust (Vertical – Delivered from factory in vertical position). 2. Outside Exhaust (Horizontal). 3. Recirculating (Non-vented ductless). This makes choosing a replacement microwave easy. NOTE: When replacing an over-the-range microwave, the mounting bracket included with the new microwave should be used since the mounting bracket is specific to each model. The new screws, bolts, and exhaust adapter should also be used. Thanks for choosing GE. We're glad to have you in the family. Enjoy! Sue
A:AnswerSame issue with me. Clock light is too bright. Almost hurts the eyes to look at it. Our previous same GE microwave was much more subdued and the light was a green. Softer green light.
Possible solution might be to remove the control cover and insert a piece of transparent green film over the clock / control area.

A:AnswerWatch out. NOT all over-the-range microwaves are the same HEIGHT. The old Kenmore you have is 15 1/2 inches high. I know because I have the same one from 1995 and it just died. All the new ones for over the range are either a lot shorter in height or about 16 1/2 inches high. I Don't know what the code is for clearance between your range top and the bottom of the microwave, but this extra inch might put you out of spec. Also, if you have tiles on the wall behind the range, like I do, and they were cut away to allow for the 15 1/2 inch high microwave to fit flush to the wall under the cabinet, then the taller ones will not fit. You will need to either
1) raise the cabinet,
2) cut more tile away, which is hard to do without breaking tiles
3) cut away the underside of the cabinet which may not be possible if it is a solid board
4) mount the microwave a tile-thickness away from the wall, This would be my preference. You would need to put a spacer the thickness of the tiles behind the new mounting rail. You may still be out of spec with the range-to-microwave clearance.

A:AnswerHello,
This is Lisa from GE. If you had an over the range microwave, any of our 30 inch wide over the range models will fit in the same space. There may be a slight difference in height and depth, but the width will fit. You will need to use the mounting plate that comes with the new model. Model JVM3160DFBB should work fine. Thanks for checking!
A:AnswerThank you for asking a great question. The model beginning with JNM means it comes from factory as a non-vented or recirculating. the model that starts JVM means it comes from factory as vented model but you can change to recirculating when ready to install it. It is explained in the installs supplied. Hope this helps you out. Geoff@GEA
A:AnswerThe installer said there are two types of mounting brackets. In his work, he says it's a 50-50 chance the old and new will be the same (for GE). In our case, the top holes and the mounting bracket were different. But the installer did an excellent job of replacing the old/new bracket and of drilling new holes into the cabinet above. I covered old holes with duct tape, making the cabinet bottom still useable for some storage. Electric cord could use the old hole, and vent cutout was the same.
A:AnswerHello Did - Thank you for reaching out to us. We are sorry to hear that your built-in microwave stopped working; we appreciate your loyalty and we are happy to help! The JVM3160DFWW is not a correct replacement as it is not a built-in model. It is an over-the-range microwave and it is not approved for in-cabinet installation. The closest currently available replacement built-in model is here: https://products.geappliances.com/appliance/gea-specs/PEB9159DJWW Due to different configurations and design changes involving airflow and heat issues, new microwaves are only approved for installation with current trim kits. Here are the compatible trim kits for the model listed above.

You will need to slightly modify the cabinet opening as we no longer offer a model with the same cutout dimensions. You can view the new model specifications here: https://products.geappliances.com/MarketingObjectRetrieval/Dispatcher?RequestType=PDF&Name=PEB9159DJ_R2.pdf
We hope you find this information helpful! Thank you very much for checking! Olga
A:AnswerHi Marianne - Yes, JVM3160RFSS has a two-speed, 300-CFM venting system that removes smoke, steam and odors. All GE over-the-range microwave ovens are designed for adaptation for the following three types of ventilation: *Outside Exhaust (Vertical – Delivered from factory in vertical position). *Outside Exhaust (Horizontal). *Recirculating (Non-vented ductless). Thanks for choosing GE! Sue
A:AnswerHi Kanu- Yes, JVM3160RF2SS and JVM3160RFSS are actually the same. JVM3160RF2SS is the complete model number. When the model is manufactured, the extra number is placed on the appliance rating plate and product registration card. This number is used to identify manufacturing specific data when the appliance is made. Should service or parts be needed, this is used as an identifier for the specific appliance. We certainly appreciate your loyalty! Keep in touch- SUE@GEA
