Hi Mb - Thanks for viewing GE! This unit is designed for installation in a double-hung window and not a sliding/horizontal window. You can view a video online: https://products.geappliances.com/appliance/gea-support-search-content?contentId=39294 - A portable air conditioner is recommended for locations where you cannot install a window unit, like sliding or casement windows. Take a look at GE - 250 Sq. Ft. Portable Air Conditioner Model APCA09YZBW. We suggest viewing pages 9 and 11 of the Installation Guide for details: https://products.geappliances.com/MarketingObjectRetrieval/Dispatcher?RequestType=PDF&Name=49-5000440-1.pdf - Keep in touch at GEAppliances.com. Sorry, there was a problem. Please try again later. It should be okay, unless I misunderstand the potential problem you are raising. The bottom of the window (like the sill, of course) should be essential in holding the A/C in place (from above and after having been lowered, in this case). The A/C will also get secured from the sides. Does this help, I hope?
Sorry, there was a problem. Please try again later. It should work, but you may need plywood or something to seal up the gap that may be there after install since from what I'm understanding your window slids side to side and not up and down.
