“The back one-third of my GE 20.8 cu. Ft. Top Freezer Refrigerator is pressed smack up against a shelf on top. The rest of the refrigerator is free on top. Will the refrigerator be affected by the shelf lying directly on one-third of the top?”

The shelf directly on top won’t hurt the fridge. It’s what you decide to put on the shelf. I wouldn’t have a combined weight heavier than 25-30lbs+ on the shelf. Although it’s insulated sheet metal, you potentially could cause an issue with too much weight. But I wouldn’t worry too much, as I have a garage fridge that I stack plenty of items on.

Hi Daisy - Thanks for choosing GE! The refrigerator will operate fine as long as you have the recommended clearances on top two thirds, back and sides (Top 1", Back 2", Sides 1"). Enjoy! Sue
