Yes, you need a couple inches clearance to open the doors that much.

Hi BillV- We suggest to view Quick Specs at the following link for product dimensions: http://products.geappliances.com/MarketingObjectRetrieval/Dispatcher?RequestType=PDF&Name=GYE22HMK_HSK_C2.pdf - Minimum distance between side of case and wall, in either direction, to allow doors to open fully is 16 1/8".
