Since nobody has responded, I will take a stab. I believe that what you read in the delivery description refers to actually removing the metal, circular "punch out" on the left side of your dryer so that the internal vent hose comes out of the unit on the left rather than out from the back. This is more of a DIY project that can be done but that installers don't usually perform. Your current set up is probably vented out the back of the dryer and then routed to the left (via use of an elbow) and attaches to the wall vent opening that leads outside. I have been reseaching this week and learned that most if not all installation guys only do what is called "hook up." That means plugging in, attaching new gas lines, new water lines and new rigid venting (required for gas, not electric). I think installers are pleased not to have to make any alterations to the setup and can simply install your new vent hose the exact same way the old one was. I hope I did not confuse you.

I think is so you'll hire a handyman/ private installer to do all unusual venting, but that is not needed in with this model. From my research and studying of the installation manual, this can be side vented without a punch out. The 24" smaller unit needs a punch out, but this one doesn't. The connection area between the top and bottom (dryer and washer) is designed so no punch out is needed to side vent it. You can back the unit right up to the wall. It says you're supposed to have 1" clearance in front if the unit, but 0 behind. The Plug- and Play installers should be able to do it if you or they have the correct rigid metal vent tube... I suspect 15" but don't quote me. And it needs to be UL rated, I heard. The installation manual makes it sound like there's a built-in elbow at the vent point that can be rotated to point left , right or down. Then the straight tube gets attached to that till it extends past the body of the unit where the overheating/ fire danger is less. It can then attach to a flexible aluminum vent or whatever you've got. Search the internet for "GE Model GUD27ESSMWW Installation manual".
